OMG you mean someone takes Costner's Robin Hood as history LOL many did they really worry that Alan Rickman was going to cancel Christmas?
Okay U571 bugged me it was a blatant re-write.
Private Ryan not so much because other uniforms are seen in the distance but dealt with the Americans looking for one of their own among their troops. So eh... they didn't say "Hey look guys the ones in the black berets are Brits." Sorry.
Well this historian's take is if you want to know history, how it really happened read accounts in many different places from many different sources.
but dealt with the Americans looking for one of their own among their troops.
Which I would have had no trouble with... IF the story hadn't been an Americanised re-write of a true story that happened to an English guy. A Guy who came from my own hometown, in fact. :D As it is I still find it irksome.
Ahh there was a similar story about a guy from Missouri (was written up in Life magazine like the whole war was) who's 4 brothers were killed. I think it happened a few times on both sides. Where they tried to pull back the last surviving son if they could.
"Robin Hood" was accused of distorting of Britain's medieval past.
Honestly, as much as I really, really liked Robin Hood, there really is very little about it that's historical. That's like saying the new King Arthur movie is based on historical fact.
Oh, wait...they are claiming that. Well hooray for fictional amalgamations becoming real-life history! They've really done well for themselves, haven't they?
Who really expects movies to be based on actual history. Pshaw. (Although there are some people who claim the Holocaust never happened for this very same reason, go figure).
While I agree with the article's point that Troy was a mismatch of cultural references....Uhmmm...they had money in the Greco-Roman era. Maybe before we complain we should be sure of our facts, eh?
