Went to the Grehound tonight to see Frozan Ovis. It's a semi-subsidiary of Glasshouse, for those who care, and it was their first gig.
A stealth gig as we like to call it, for they didn't know they were playing it till three weeks ago when Shane (Glasshouse's drummer) phoned them up and said Hey... I got you a gig.

The first words out of their collective mouths was apparently "You what??! You TWAT!" for indeed they've not actually been practicing for very long and are still technically missing a bass player.
Ian from Glasshouse stood in for them, but only for tonight cause the poor bugger's too overloaded with work as it is.

Anyhoo... it was OK. I think with some more practice they could be quite good, though they're really pushing their fragile little PA system too far. There were long stretches of audible clicking where the cones were hitting the stops and a lot of feedback problems, though I personally think that has more to do with Shane's capabilities on a mixing desk.
Overall, they do Bon Jovi numbers pretty well, Metallica very well indeed and their lead singer is actually pretty good. He was running out of stamina and losing his top notes by the end of the night but otherwise it wasn't bad.
Their keyboard player, on the other hand, also sings a few numbers and manages to murder them quite well.
*winces* Can we say mad Scotsman in spandex cycling shorts, trying to sing like the guy from Nickleback?
Yes, well...
What else...
Gonna' be out for most of tomorrow so I figure I should go and colapse into bed soon.
Oh, and mum pointed out that the 22% they slapped on me was the govornment's standard "Emergency tax" which they stick you with till they find you a relevant tax bracket. At some point I should be getting a refund which is nice to know, though still a damned pain.
Though I sneer at the term emergency tax, the emergency being the gov't worrying that they might not be squeezing ALL of the money out of you, regardless of your minimum wage job.
It pisses me off cause they don't give a damn about the people they're sucking money out of. If I wasn't living at home I would be seriously screwed by now...

If it makes you feel any better, my government takes about 27% off the top of my paycheck.

Uhm... ouch? In theory I shouldn't be paying any at all because my income is under the national minimum living wage.

Then you SHOULD get it all back at the end of the year. Think of it as an enforced savings plan. ;) I usually get a fair amount back at the end of the year and used to buy myself something nice, but the past couple of years (and several in the future) my refund has gone/will go to my mother to pay off what I owe for my trip to Wales.

When is your tax day in Britain? Ours is April 15th.

Ahh, I think folks fill out tax returns around March and actually get their money back sort of whenever the govornment feels like it.
