Pecuniary irregularity
Dec. 16th, 2003 10:55 pmSo every year our family buys a freshly-minted proof-set of coins from the Royal Mint. My dad started it when decimalised currency first arrived in 1971 and we've purchased a set every single year without fail since then.
This year's set came though the day before yesterday. Lovely set it was, beautiful wooden display box and everything, only... well when we opened it we discovered there were absolutely no coins inside.
Hmm.
If we'd had any suspicion that maybe there'd been a blunder at the mint it was kind of negated when we also observed that the top of the postage box had been re-sealed with a different colour tape at some point along the line.
*sighs and rolls eyes*
You can't tell me postal workers are THAT strapped for cash that they have to break into a proof-set and steal less than nine quid's worth of legal tender...? Cause out of the proof set that's all it is. Loose change.
*pokes them with sticks then shakes them upside-down to empty out their pockets.*
Man, people suck...

Date: 2003-12-17 12:05 am (UTC)It stinks of the opportunistic though. We called the mint and they were so surprised it's sorta' evident it's not some all-out targeting of their packages. If no one else has had a problem with it I guess it narrows it down to someone opening packages as a whim. The boxes aren't marked y'see, they wouldn't have known where it was from until they opened it.
But yeah... postmaster general. I'll have to remind mum to get back up on her high horse...

Date: 2003-12-17 01:39 am (UTC)people do indeed suck..
what I hate even more is, when you go to the post office to report that something has been stolen and they're like "but that can't happen... I mean.. that would never happen. maybe it just got lost..."
yeah, right... and it's so believeable that the mail service loses a parcel with an address on it and a sender address on it... of course they didn't steal it, but lose it... now I start to see where I was wrong *grrrr*
it's kinda depressing if you have to send everything that has a worth to you as registred mail just because you have to assume they're gonna
steallose it... *sigh**pets you*
