Milk... it's very bad for you, especially in large quantities.

538 cartons of it, to be exact.

Five HUNDRED and thirty eight cartons of 1litre supersaver UHT skimmed milk...

And today I got the fun job of moving them all off the shelf and into the back of the store room because head office said so.

No explanation as to WHY we weren't allowed to sell them, just that we weren't. And you can guarentee that in another couple of days, we'll have to move them all back again.

Five hundred and thirty eight cartons of milk.

538 litres of UHT skimmed milk...
That would make one HELL of a rice pudding.

Some days you just have to stop and wonder if everything truly is as utterly pointless as it sometimes seems. ^^;;

I think I've spent most of the last 2 days going round and round in ever more rediculous circles.

Oh, though I got to play with the computer system today.

*Insert sarcastic laughter here*

It's not a computer system, it's an antique little... little... man, it's lucky if it's even a 3.86
Honest to God, I kid you not, these machines are so ancient they can't even share the printer unless you turn a few dozen knobs first.
They have 8" screens that run only in shades of green and everything!

John said it's cause DOS based systems are more stable. Bollocks to that, they only use it for checking barcodes, printing Point of Sale lables and downloading memos from head office.
There would be a whole lot less pointless flapping around and running about in circles if they had a more up to date system and a better way of price-checking stock.
On the whole, I ain't impressed, and the more I see the more I have to say it's a big old chaotic and useless pile of... of... the words fail me... ^^;;

It was in the papers this morning though, that Asda are trying to buy up Safeway. As of last night they've put in a 2.8 billion bid for it.
Asda are the UK face of Wallmart. If they aquire Safeways too then they'll finally rival Tescos for supermarket supremacy in this country.

Man, I've only been working there 2 days and I already know more about supermarkets than I ever actually wanted to.

I'm just glad I wasn't there yesterday evening. I managed to avoid the wonderfully fun job of destroying 48 tins of spaghetti hoops that were about a year and a half out of date.

Before you ask, those too were items that head office said to take off the shelves and store until given further instructions.
They then promptly forgot to send any.

According to the chickie I was with today, they'd started rotting through the cans and most of them were completely black inside.
That's just... nasty.

I'm seinding in an application for the Loughborough endowed schools shop. I think it's the place that sells the uiforms for the Grammar/High and Convent schools in L'borough. If it's not that then it's something similar, but it can't hurt either way. They pay better then my current job and it'll involves less bloody milk.

And I went to a posh school, I have experience in this kind of thing, damnit! ^^;

Oh, one final point. Muzak follows you everywhere... even in the locker room... even in the canteen... even in the toilets, the "let's play somethign to make the customers buy more" music follows you around totally non-stop.

Because of that I've had the random and odd pan-pipes version of Bonnie Tyler's Total Eclipse of the Heart stuck in my head since 8 this morning.

I now have to go and find something very loud and obnoxious to play instead.
