Oh, here's a random question... if Cinnamon Altoids are made in the UK, why can't you actually buy them in the UK?
Or at least I've never seen them.

I feel oddly compelled to write to Callard and Bowser and whinge at them.

On a totally unrelated note, my aunt just called for the annual visit arrangements. Apparently this is going to be the last year we get presents, cause I'm the youngest and I turn 21 in January so after this apparently we're all too old for gifts.

*pouts*

Tightwads... You're never too old to receive gifts from your own freaking family. But then my aunt is a funny woman, often times totally inexplicable. And I want to know where everyone keeps getting this bizarre idea that 21 is too old to be a kid any more.
Damnit, I have trouble remembering that I'm over 18 half the time. I still get a naughty thrill of the illicit getting into 18 rated movies without getting stopped. XD

(Oh boy I need a life)

*coughs* So anyway... Yes, visiting the relatives on the 21st December. The official invite has been extended to include Kat because in fairness we've hosted our fair share of my cousin's ever-changing boyfriend-du-jour over the past decade. So as long as my aunt doesn't attempt to wed anybody off too forcibly (Which was her immediate response when she heard the boywonder had gone out to Canada, BTW... the weight of public opinion is starting to frighten me) then everything should be ok. However my aunt does not believe in subtlty so we'll just have to see how that one plays out. ~.^

After that we head to Richard's on the 22nd, I believe, which leaves the 23rd free for the resultant hangover (I say never again every single year... then do it all again regardless) and pray to God I make it through without the pounding, Jack Daniels-induced headache of yesteryear...

Sheesh, and it's not even December yet...

*shrug*

france is actually the only country where you can't get french dressing... I think TPTB just like confusing us ;)

*sigh*
my godmother was like that.
the day I had my confirmation it was BAMM, you won't get anything for christmas.
I still gave her a present cause I actually thought we were friends, not just two people who have to make each others presents because in case my parents died she would have to take care of me... sheesh!

*nods* This is what I always figured. I don't get people presents because I'm OBIGATED to, I get them presents because I LIKE them and I want to get them something that'll make them happy...
It's not like it even has to be big things or expensive things. Even just little bits and bobs to stick under the tree, just to say that you've thought about someone. It's a bit disconcerting to feel like you're an obligation all of a sudden. :/

*nod* totally.
I always spend quite a lot of money on christmas presents, but that's because if I know what someone wants, I want to give it to him/her, even if it's expensive...
doesn't mean I'm gonna spend just as much the next year, because next year he/she probably wants something completely else :-/

I've always been someone who'd rather have a lot of little packages with silly worthless cute things instead of something big expensive... *shrug* I'd rather have something that shows me, someone thought about me and what I like, then something that shows me, someone spend a whole lot of money on something I don't want... :-/

I also like it better to make presents among the year because then people know I make them, because I want to, not because I have to...

it really feels like this, doesn't it? *sigh* I guess some people just are like that...

Oh, totally... If I know someone really really wants something specific, then if it's possible to get it for them then chances are I will. I like trying to find things that will actually mean something to someone. Like this year I found a particular Rubiks game (Rubiks magic) that JR had been looking for all year. He doesn't like using eBay America and he couldn't get one in the UK so I sneakily imported one for him. I mean it's plastic junk really, but he DESPERATELY wanted one for his collection and hopefully it'll make him happy.
It's not the easiest way to christmas shop, actually hunting down things that people really wanted but didn't think they'd get, but I like doing it anyway. ;)

yeah, takes up quite some time and nerves but it's just WAY better to see someone be happy about something he really really wanted then watch him simper and say thanks for a body lotion and a piece of soap ;-p

Ahh, the ubiquitous bathroom stuff. :D I admit I have fallen back on that when I'm totally stuck for ideas, but I do at least try and make it personal by making up the basket and contents myself instead of just pluching one off the shelf...

It's a bizarre thing - aging. 1997 was a pretty "colourful" year for me, and paradoxically I've always felt that my internal calender gears were jammed up by the trauma. I still feel 17, even though I'm supposed to be this worldly-wise and mature adult person. Sometimes when I fill in forms I still instinctively write 17, or sometimes 19 (the age I was when I last applied for college, and hence had to fill in batches of forms). So far in my life I've had a real blind spot for the years that came after 1999, mainly I think because I've been living like a hermit for much of them.

As for the gift-giving/receiving thing...it's very much like that in my family. Presents tailed off when I hit 19. I'm too old now to expect anyone else to buy anything for me. So I haven't bothered to make a Christmas list for years, or even ask for anything specific for the last couple of years. Well, tell a lie, I ask for a diary every year because I'm superstitious about buying it myself. I also asked for the LOTR DVD and a Tori Amos album last year, but no one got them for me. :(
I only really have four people who ever really bought presents for me (my M&D and my aunt and Nana.) The rest of my family, as I've mentioned before, aren't really close, so I'd just get a box of Matchmakers or After Eight Mints. Now my close family are all broke, (or in my N and A's case; spending every penny on my spoilt-as-fuck niece. Seriously, she has ten of EVERYTHING) so I don't like to ask for anything anymore. Not to sound spoilt, but it is kind of upsetting and disappointing, especially when everyone is talking about the cool stuff they got. I usually have stuff like £5 worth of toiletries, some padded coathangers, a ton of chocolate, even though I specifically ask every year that no one buy me choc because I'm watching my weight.*sigh* I'm grateful that I'm given -anything-, of course, but I'd appreciate it *so* much more if they all clubbed together to buy me an album that I can't afford to buy myself. It's especially disappointing this year, when there's reasonably cheap stuff ( two films, books, and the Tori album I asked for last year...)that I'd *love* but I just can't afford to buy myself.

PotC is out tomorrow and I *so* would have loved to rush out there and buy it but I can't. Not unless I get into MORE CC debt. And I can't ask for it for Chrimbo either, even though I know D will be straight out there tomorrow to buy a copy for himself.
Suck.

*sigh* I'm getting as bitter as Jarath in my old age. m(_ _)m

Well I got you something already, and it's neither chocolate nor soap... I just need to SEE you at some point... ;)

Out of interest, which Tori Amos album were you after anyway?

I'm hoping to be able to sort out my Chrimbo shopping soon, so hopefully we can meet up before too long. (Like, um...August. *lol*)

Toriness - Boys For Pele:

That's the standard version there, the Euro version they replaced ITSTOHV with a pointless remix of Professional Widow. (Why, why, why? etc.) That album has some of my favorites on. You neeeed MP3s of tracks 2,3,7 & 9! And of "Spark", "Black Dove(January)" <3<3, and "Butterfly" whilst you're about it. :3
*spreads the Tori love*

*coughs* Uhh yeah... Let's try and get it at least this side of the new year... XD

Because it's all a cunning marketing ploy to confuse people and irritate them when hapelss relatives pick up the wrong edition and make you go and buy the other one as well thereby selling twice as many CDs...?
