*squeals* Hee, I found my old altar server broze medalian in a big pile of junk out in my gran's garage.
*laughs* Ahh, from the days when if I had to be catholic, damnit I was gonna' do something useful... and harassed the bishop of Leicester till he finally relented and agreed with the papal permission to let girls work the altar.

Yup, first and probably only girl altar server at our church, but darnit, I was good

I was thinking the medialian has symbols all over it, it might go with my costume, but I fear the colours will clash.

Other stuff, my travel insurance arrived. That just leaves rail tickets to get, booking a taxi to the station for the buttcrack of dawn on Thursday and general miscelany to drag together.

After that it's all good I think... *crosses fingers*
Though my natural anxiety is lurking around a bit, I'll be ok once we really get going.

cause over here in Germany there are more catholic girls than boys doing their "temple dance service

That's certainly true here for the C-of-E churches over here, but the catholic ones were deeply set in their rut of male-dominated religion. You could do reading and be a girl, you could sing in the choir and be a girl, but you could in no way, shape or form be an alter server and be a girl.

Maybe they were worried the cassocks wouldn't fit or something, who knows, but it took almost 2 years of pestering the bishop of Leicester to allow female alter servers in his diocese. And it was indeed just HIM that was the problem. But he was old and weird and I think he's retired now...

It's annual travel insurance *shrugs*. It covers lost luggage, missed flights, major delays, flight cancellations, miscelaneous health doofahs in case of accidents, blah blah blah... all that crap.
It's a safety net thing while travelling abroad. Because the UK doesn't have a free medical arrangement with a lot of coutries, US included, and as no one in the UK really has health insurance it covers any bills incurred while abroad if you get ill or ski yourself into a pine tree or whatever.

I'll admit I travelled without any last time around, but because JR's sister is a travel agent she got a pretty decent deal on annual cover which was virtually the same price as specific journey cover.

As far as I'm concerned it's mostly because all my really cool clothes are in my luggage and if that gets lost I'm just about shafted. ;p
