July and August bring a second Australian play, The Duck Shooter, adapted from Marty Denniss's cult hit film, Erskineville Kings, starring Denniss with Hugh Jackman.
Presented in collaboration with Brink Productions, the play examines male Australian relationships against the background of inner-city pub culture.
Clemente believes it is ideal for a collaboration with Brink.
"It's in their territory, it's in their age group, it's something they can tap into immediately," she says. "It's not that kind of stretch that throws them out of their comfort zone." After her production of Arthur Miller's The Crucible early this year, Clemente is to direct Death of a Salesman, also by Arthur Miller, and starring William Zappa as Willy Loman.
"I feel like I am ready to direct this," she says. "I have wanted to direct it for a long time. I think it is about generational damages that happen to boys from the unrealistic expectations and demands of their fathers."
I can see, certainly, how EK could be adaptable to theatre but boy... it's not exactly the most easy-going of movies to begin with. I'm not certain it'd be the sunniest way of spending a night out. Worthy for sure, but not exactly uplifting.
Does make me want to watch EK right now though... Ahh, the angst... *happysigh*
