News breaks on the horizon
Oct. 12th, 2003 08:57 pmParents have discovered today that their holiday to Spain may be heading towards the realms of "out of the question". They were going with JR's sister and her husband Paul, only P's younger brother apparently hung himself late last night. It was almost without doubt suicide, but these things always have to go through the police and coroner, and then there's the funeral and... eeugh, if your brother just wound up dead you're not likely to want to go jettng off to Spain, you know what I mean?
They'll know Wednesday, apparently, though I feel that even if they do go it's going to be a subdued affair. It's not a branch of the extended almost-family that any of us actually ever met (I didn't even know Paul HAD any brothers) but regardless it's obviously a blow very close to home for P's side of the family.
Apparently this brother had always been the black sheep so there was fairly minimal contact, but no one suspected he was suicidal until it happened.
That's something I find a little strange personally, but then I've always been quite close to my brother (people comment on it and everything, which is weird if you ask me). I like to think I'd notice if there was anything that big or that inescapable troubling him.
But then other peoples' families are just that. Other peoples'.
We don't disown or ignore family, as a rule... though it must be said that they sure do like to disown us.
Saying that though, it's probably a good thing. We're the black sheep arm of my grandmother's side so we operate independantly of the creater body of cousins, a fact that thankfully saves us the effort of avoiding them as most of them are homophobic jerks.
(Waves a virtual hello to Roger, David and their several cats, because apparently everyone but us has disowned them)
But I digress.
Yeah, so that's the latest. They're still making plans in case they are going but it's all a little bit doubtful as of right now.
Thankfully it doesn't effect the boywonder or myself but I know JR's not happy. He'd been looking forward to actually going on a plane for the first time. ~_^
