Art... it's a mug's game I tell ya...
Aug. 15th, 2003 09:58 pmSo I've pleased my mum by actually drawing something for our living room as opposed to drawing something for internet people she doesn't know too well. :D
It's a companion piece to the sleeper I did a few weeks back. The antithisis, in fact. I'm thinking of making them into a trio of elements... which is an odd thing to say given that there are 4 elements, but I only have 3 frames, so... *eh* ;p
Maybe the next one will be a duo...
Anyway, if this is anything, it has to be fire. I would say the sleeper was air. Maybe water. Could go either way but I'm leaning towards airyness there...

Few notes:
You would not believe how much damn trouble I had drawing his head. it still ain't quite right but I've discovered I just physically cannot draw profiles. I'll have to work on that at some point but, short of some bits of fiddling I'm still doing, this one isn't going to get noticably any better.
So, profies will be a future project to hammer away at, but for now I'm going to let it slide. There's only so much tinkering you can do before you wear away the paper.
Secondly, his outstretched foot looks ODD to me. Really really odd, but I swear to God it's almost identical to the foot in the source photo. That looked odd as all hell too. He's at a funny, foreshortened angle I think. Either that or he has a freaky looking foot :p
Thirdly, yup you guessed it... scanner's flaking again. it's not too bad today but thee's some tonal related weirdness going on in a few places. Too lazy to re-scan though so... *eh*
Just got to mount and frame it up now. Then he can go sit on top of the dresser with the sleeper till I can get around to doing a 3rd image.

I think it's the three middle toes, they look slightly large in proportion to his big and little toe.
I think this is one of the best I've seen yet, if it was on display in a shop I'd snap it up without question.

Date: 2003-08-15 02:18 pm (UTC)I might take a bit of creative lisence on that actually and attempt to make them less weird... but It's kinda' dark at the moment so I guess that'll have to wait till tomorrow.
Though I think I've figured out what it is... his big toe is kinda' smooshed forward towards the camera, so it's even more foreshortened than the rest of his foot. I think if I tinker with the shadows I can make that more aparent.

Really...? O_o

I shouldn't get too excited, my journal's mostly full of bitching about my job and arguments with the voices in my head. ;p
