Been a busy morning already it seems. Went to the bank, opened a new account so I can get a chequebook. Mum opened a joint account with me as well because she felt the insane need to do so (Something about instantly accessable funds should she die in a freak accident. Either she knows something she ain't telling or she's being paranoid again) and then got my old traveler's cheques converted into actually useable currency. I now have a whacking great stack of bills on top of my VCR and no matter how hard I try I just can't get used to all the different denominations being all the same size AND colour. :p

I like my fives small and blue, my tens larger and orange, my twenties nicely purple and my fifties huge and reassuringly red.
Oh, which in a roundabout way reminds me, if anyone out there has any British currency kicking around from previous trips, note that the ten pound notes with Dickens on are going out of circulation and will no longer be valid. If you want to spend them in the future you'll have to take them to a bank here to get them exchanged.
Alternatively you can paste them to your wall and use them as some kind of decorative artwork because they'll be pretty damn useless otherwise. . :D

Ah, perfect American logical uniformity. I bet if you had lived before the decimalization of British currency, you'd have preferred it the old way. ;P

I don't think I have any Dickens tenners. I have a Scottish one pound note and maybe a couple of fives and lots of change, though. I have a few of those old 50p pieces that are no good anymore, though.

Ah the really big-assed 50p coins that went out of circulation way back in the 90's?
I remember them. I also remember 5p coins that you didn't tend to loose all the time because they're so pathetically tiny. :D
