In a clerical sort of mood
Jul. 15th, 2003 10:08 pmBeen re-sorting my Hugh files again. I'm down to 204 technically unsorted miscelaneous photos that don't really fit into any of my other sub-folders. But I'm whittled it down from 2 totally seperate Hugh directories, which was getting confusing.
Originally I did it so I had a *sealed* folder, one that was exactly big enough to fit onto a CD and contained all the stuff I was unlikely to add to again, like X-men, SLY, K&L etc, and one open folder that had all the newer stuff. But as is the way of such things, I DID end up adding to the sealed folder and it swelled outside the realms of burnable CD space because it was also filled with associated multimedia things.
So I stripped out the media files and ended up THEN with 2 Hugh picture folders and a Media folder. Of course, after stripping out all the attatched video and MP3 stuff from my original sealed folder it went wayyyyy the hell down in size again so there was no point in keeping it sealed any more.
It's taken me like... a year to get around to incorporating both the image folders back together because it's a daunting task... putting together seperated photo-runs from a bunch of different sources, whittling the magazines from the press junkets, hunting down any accidental stray duplicates... It's confusing and God help me if I need to find something specific. It could be ANYWHERE right about now... XD
I'm also running out of descriptive filenames.
*Looks* Shirt. Fluffy. Face. Grin. Grinning. Blue... yeah, they could be literally anything. Definitely running out of inventive filenames... :p
And this is why I'm not cut out for office work. Sorting files makes my head hurt.
So latest tally I'm up to 2969 files, almost exactly 1GB of space, not counting wallpapers or icons.
Not too bad... and would be way the hell higher if my PC actually let me make screen grabs. It's probably a good job that it doesn't. ;p
Makes me wonder though, those of you with 3000+ sized collections of images dedicated to the same person (whoever that person may be) how the hell do you keep on top of YOUR files? I dive in and hope for good luck cause I stopped being able to remember specific filenames for all but my favourite images around a year and a half ago.
Is there a clerical secret you employ? Do you sort by content or origin? Are your filenames a cryptic enigma to all but yourself?
Tell me, cause I'm curious, and always on the lookout for anything that makes my life easier. ;)
