"X-Men" fans may know him as Action Jackman, but New Yorks about to see his musical side: this fall, the 34-year-old actor will make his Broadway debut in the musical "The Boy From Oz."
"Hes warming up his pipes every day," says John Palermo, his on-set assistant.
"He also learned to tap-dance. Hes got a piano in the trailer, and every once in a while, an audience forms outside, listening to him tap and croon."
Not only is Jackman juggling the film, the show and the Tonys, but hes just volunteered to host a fund-raiser for Afghanistan schools - and lassoed Nicole Kidman, John Travolta and other stars for the cause.
"He could not be more exhausted and stressed out," says Palermo, "but hes doing it."

Heh, oh, and... "Yes, Ill be wearing hair extensions, but there are worse things," Jackman told The Post. "Once the tux goes on, you look fine. With my little pony-tail, Ill just look like the 80s version of Hugh Jackman!"
Heeee ponytail ponytail ponytail... now if someone would just get him a guitar for a musical number and then transport me to the USA so I could actually SEE the show... ;)

Date: 2003-06-06 12:36 am (UTC)Ya know, it's this busy schedule that probably made them think he'd turn down the offer to host the Tony's. He just couldn't say no to such an opportunity, though. I guess he's putting off sleep until he's dead.
BTW, are you a member of Hugh_Jackman? (I was gonna ask if you were on Hugh_Jackman, but that just leads to all sorts of naughtiness.) Anyway, I bring it up 'cause the listmum took her son to see Hugh on the Van Helsing set. She swears the leather pants on the awards are the same ones as his costume, or he likes them so much he bought ones just like them. Makes ya wonder if he was on-set working, changed into a sweater and shoes, went to the awards, and then went back to the set.
