There's something squiffy about this new CD drive.
While putting in a disk results in it going yes, this is an audio CD, hooray, look, there are tracks on here and everything, the CD playing softwear doesn't seem to agree.
It scans then states there is no disk loaded.
It currently recognises only fraction of my audio CDs. Namely the fraction that, at some point along the line, I bothered to enter track title information for.
Now as that gets lost with the hard drive, that only covers about the 20 or so disks I've really listened to since the last massive system failure. It also doesn't include any of my Aerosmith CDs, any of the Queen, most of my soundtracks...
*gives it a dirty look*
I'm not sure where the fault is lying. I would say the CD drive, as it's the only thing that's changed and the old drive used to have no such issue getting unidentified disks to play through the default CD player interface.
Now... *shrugs*
It could be softwear related though I don't know why. It never used to be an issue.

I dunno... I have a steaming, throbbing headache and I'm right now too tired to give a shit. I'll bitch about it tomorrow when I can think right.

Hmmm... Since it'll play some CDs and not others, I'm suspicious it's a software problem. Why don't you try playing the CDs with Windows Media Player and see if that works?

Hmm, I'll give it a poke tomorrow I think. Winamp seems to recognise them but takes forever to want to actually play them.
Actually, even the disks it does recognise seem to take forever to register as actually existing. I'm not sure.

Ah, useless technology, bane of my life.
One of these days I'll solve all my problems and get a hi-fi.

Not that I have any plug sockets left to power it with, mindyou...

;)

Ya know, maybe it's your drivers that are messed up. Usually, when I add new hardware, I also have to upload drivers from a CD that comes with the product. Now, since you replaced your CD drive, it makes me wonder if you have all the right sound drivers to get your CDs to play.

Ah, but that's what power strips are for. Magically turn one socket into six, complete with a little surge protection.

Already have. What do you think is powering the TV, video, computer, speakers, printer, scanner, lamp, electric toothbrush charger...
XD

*shrugs* don't ask me. It's JR's department. I'll whinge at him tomorrow.
