lady_t_220Yesterday at lunch- 2 poor teachers struggled to work out what was going on with one of the new students.
#1: Might he be trans?
#2: Well, he didn't mention it and his name's [boy name] on the registration but what did he say he wanted to be called? Erin?
#1: I think so... but... I think spelled E-R-E-N? Either way he's not exactly a shrinking violet--
Me: *goes to take a look at said student through the doorway* *starts laughing uncontrollably*
#1: What?
Me: Eren. Not Erin. It's a boy name. Which he probably got from Eren Yeager. Who's a character in "Attack on Titan". Because that is not a trans person, that is a colossal weeaboo. The Shingeki no Kyojin backpack kind of gives it away.
I've never seen two educated, erudite people looking so confused.
It's tragic that so many people haven't got two pop-culture references to rub together. I made a Two By Two Hands Of Blue reference the other day (because the nitrile gloves at work are blue and I amuse myself with it regularly) and everyone looked at me like I'd completely lost my fucking mind.
