Feb. 16th, 2012 03:24 pmSooooooo...
We think we've found a good place for the G-ma to go to. Mum spent the morning looking around various residential and nursing homes and has made her pick for #1
She says it seems very nice, more like a little hotel. It has good reports, the people seem nice, the care levels are what the G-ma needs, it doesn't smell of wee, and they even have a theraputic cat.
The top-up we have to pay beyond what social services is paying, is about £100/week. Which is not ideal but it's managable. Though the woman mum spoke to said that from the sounds of it the G-ma could be eligable for more funding and they'll reassess her themselves once she's settled. So mum seems happy. And is fairly content to let professionals try and wring more money out of social services because given what a twatwaffle the G-ma's social worker seems to be mum thinks they'll probably have more success than she will.
The pre-paid amount would have been enough on its own if the G-ma was willing to have a room-mate, but for that £100/wk more she gets a freshly-decorated single all to herself. For the cost mum thought having the single would be the safer option. In part because regardless of how nice her potential roomie might be (I'm told she's a lovely lady called Winnie,) Granny would HATE it. And frankly it wouldn't be fair to this Winnie to make her share a room with a cantankerous, snappy old mare like the G-ma either. So a single room it is.
As far as I know, the manager will go out to see the G-ma in hospital next week to talk with her and do their own assessments and stuff, and thereafter hopefully it won't be long till we can move her.
Mum got the impression the only thing they can't and won't take on is someone with physically violent tendencies, but the G-ma will, naturally be all sweetness and light to start with and she's too feeble for much in the way of physical outbursts. Hopefully... hoooooopefully... this won't take long and we can get her settled.
*crosses fingers*

Date: 2012-02-16 06:25 pm (UTC)That social worker sounds like somebody who just isn't fit for the job. Unfortunately the world is full of those kind of people.
I hope you and your mother have a nice weekend at least.

Date: 2012-02-17 09:41 am (UTC)Won't see the G-ma till Sunday but I'm sure there'll be updates before then. G-ma's said she's happy for her house to be let out to make up the excess payments so we've got to clear that place and get it rennovated. LOTS to do there. looooots.
