Some thoughts:

The Manic Panic dye so far seems pretty good. It's runnier than the Directions so applying it is a distinctly messier job but in that same breath it also takes an awful lot faster as well.
It says 5-15 minutes on the jar though I'd say at least a half hour for a really intense screaming colour. Directions was 30 minutes on the jar but to get a lasting colour you were best to leave it till it went crunchy or you got bored of wandering around waiting for it. (I think 3 hours was the longest I waited once... and it still barely took. It was fine all the while your hair was like freshly bleached, but after a month or so it didn't like it at ALL...)

The Manic Panic rinses out easier too, but again that is probably due to it being less gluey.

Stay tuned for results on how long the colour lasts... ;)

Other thoughts:

Original Mint Source conditioner. We have some lurking around that my mum wanted to try (it was on special offer) and never got around to using. In the interestes of science I gave it a whirl.
The first thing that hits you is the smell. Mmm, pepperminty. All good to start with... until you realise that in the steam of the shower in fact the smell is eyewateringly intense. It sort of stings, if you want the truth and this should have been a marker as to what was to come.
A zesty, unique feeling, states the bottle...
Uhh, actualy... no.
It freaking BURNS.
Honest to God, it's fine on hair but get it into contact with any of the skin in your forehead or, God forbid, your face and it's like someone's been rubbing Deep Heat onto you. It's kind of burning but really sensitive to cold... in fact the cold makes it seem to burn hotter. Again like Deep Heat.
That... that was a shock, let me tell you. I've never had a conditioner that produced quite such a marked physical response, and while my skin is sensitive to washing powders and softener, no shampoos etc have ever before posed a threat...
I don't know if it's just me or something, but... bloody hell. O_O

It's fine on my hands, but then that was rinsed off almost right away, but anywhere else it touched there was a distinct icy hot sensation. Very very strange and distinctly unpleasant.

I *love* Manic Panic colors. I once dyed my entire body purple because I fell asleep with it on, then stumbled into the shower to get it off when I woke up. {smackpalm} Yep, I'm an idiot.
When it starts to fade I mix some of the dye w/ my conditioner to refresh the color every couple days- it works great.
Whine... now I really really wanna dye my hair...

Hmm, never tried doing that with the conditioner... worth knowing.
