Bosworth Battlefield photos from yesterday.

A couple of favourites are included here-

Bosworth (2)

I saw Henry Tudor queuing for a crepe, as I said yesterday. Here he is having a difference of opinion with his horse, a creature that the commentator described as "half horse, half ferret" due to its bendiness. The horse kept trying to eat Henry's toes.

Bosworth (8)

He did eventually stop trying to eat feet, and get on with the jousting.

Bosworth (7)

A little hand-to-hand combat to while away an afternoon.

Bosworth (13)

Bosworth (17)

Both these dudes had character names, I just wasn't paying attention so I have no idea who they were.

Bosworth (18)

The campsite, replete with cunningly disguised Ikea beds.

Bosworth (22)

Some Welshies for [livejournal.com profile] deke

Bosworth (37)

This guy bent one of his gauntlets in the battle and set about hammering the dent out in the middle of the field.

Bosworth (30)

Mr Karl gets off a quick pot-shot at the enemy.

RennFaire? I love all the armor, and that's one beautiful horse! Were there busty maidens prancing about as well?

No, no, it was the Battle of Bosworth re-enactment by the, I think, 'Wars of the Roses reenactment society' or somthing along those lines. They mock-out the battle and the camp-life as close to accurately as they can get considering it's all put together by volunteers.
So no turkey legs or cheesecake on sticks, they're very big on trying to be accurate.

Ahhh, sorry. You did say Battle of Bosworth, I just didn't make the connection. Not familiar with that particular battle. I love these kinds of re-enactments though!

Battle of Bosworth Field is the one where Richard III was defeated, beheaded and then chucked off a bridge in Leicester. It's usually a good excuse for people to yell "For God, England and St George!" very loudly at the end of it.

Hey, I used to cross that bridge every Saturday while toddling to and from Leicester city centre. It has a statue of Richard III on it, though unlike his real-life counterpart, he still has his head.

*laughs*

I just remember, when I was living over there, touring the castles and manor houses (etc). EVERY ONE of 'em had a dungeon or some kind of torture chamber. It was like the "in" thing, lol. Boil 'em in oil, stretch 'em on the rack... WTF?

Hey, they were turbulent times. No worse than the Spanish Inquisition, but without quite so much of the freedom to blame it all on God. It was all about getting power and keeping it while everyone else was doing the same. A great deal of nobles spent a lot of time hedging their bets and flitting between sides depending on who looked like they were winning.

That's the bridge (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Jewry+Wall,+Saint+Nicholas+Circle,+United+Kingdom&sll=52.642438,-1.149101&sspn=0.096454,0.220757&ie=UTF8&hq=Jewry+Wall,+Saint+Nicholas+Circle,+United+Kingdom&hnear=&ll=52.633688,-1.142052&spn=0.000377,0.000862&t=h&z=20&layer=c&cbll=52.633638,-1.141914&panoid=PXiwCASLCGpItmpcJ_1HEg&cbp=12,168.49,,0,5) Richard III was supposedly chucked off. His statue's just inside the park on the left.

Beautiful bridge! Just like everything over there, really.

And yeah, not dissing you English for being heathens. We've certainly had our share here in the USA! Then again, we did (mostly) come from across the pond, so.... *grins*

That's the craziest Welsh flag I've ever seen. Looks like it's been co-opted by the bloody English. ;P

Welshie archers were notorious for being rather good, so the commentator guy insisted. I have no idea which side they were on though.

Welshies are just awesome. :D

Speaking of Welshies, I saw Jimmy Carr tweet that he saw Rhod Gilbert today. The pic showed he's still using that "Rhod Gilbert" in lightbulbs. I hope he's getting ready to put out another DVD. I've about worn this one out. :P

I think, being a proper (giant) Welshie, he's getting the most use he can out of that. Probably paid a pretty penny for that sign, he did. ;P

He said he got it off the set or a photoshoot or something, I remember he said it was aquired and he thought it was good so he nicked off with it...

Free or not, he's still gotta get good use out of it. ;))
