Aug. 20th, 2010 08:11 pmMy mother is currently telling the niece-creature a bedtime story about a red dragon called Larry, and his problems with a big green dragon who keeps trying to stink out the dragon cave with dragon-farts so Larry will be forced to leave and the green dragon can steal his cucumber patch.
At this point I had to leave because I could quell the gigglefit no longer.
In my mother's mythological vision, dragons all eat cucumber sandwiches, you see.
It's all very pastoral and lovely, which makes me laugh also as the Bug is the one who likes to tell stories about fairies being eaten by trolls because their fairy friends decided not to bother rescuing them. As a footnote she also LURVED Coraline when it was on TV last week and got very annoyed that we couldn't watch it again as soon as it was over. Which seemed to weird-out my mother something feirce cause Coraline, if you've seen it, is not the fluffiest kid movie ever.
Though I'm with Mr G on this one, I think adults are more scared by it than kids are.
She digs Labyrinth as well, so I've been told. Good girl. I'm totally waiting for her to wish David Bowie would come and take away her brothers.

Date: 2010-08-20 11:03 pm (UTC)Er, no, but they DO eat people who eat cucumber sandwiches...
My wife is a huge fan of Myuzaki. Our kids have seen Kiki's Delivery Service, Howl's Moving Castle, My Neighbor Totoro, Spirited Away, and Princess Mononoke.
In the name of balance (and my utter loathing of the term/category "family entertainment") I of course have shown them Ninja Scroll, Ghost In The Shell, and Wicked City.
