Aug. 13th, 2010 09:39 pmI am mildly irked that LJ's current complete buggering-up of their support for the old S1 layouts (It's on the known issues page) has forced me to change my journal style. For the first time in... well, actually, ever. (So about 8 years, give or take, then.)
Regardless of the fact that it was set up originally to match my geocities page I was never one much given to changing things that didn't forcibly require change (seemingly even when the site it was meant to match was overhauled, completely redigned and then ultimately deleted, the journal colour scheme was never altered to reflect such developments) and to be honest I'm actually less peeved about having to change layouts than I am about the fact that I can't find any method for applying the pre-set colours for each user on my friends view now. At least not without getting into customisation issues that are, frankly, beyond me at this particular moment.
The old layout, you see, coloured the header of each flist entry with an associated pre-determined shade for each user and community, so I could at-a-glance see who was posting rather than actually having to like, read the username.
Which is such a mind-numbingly minor thing but, you know, when you've been looking at a colour-coded flist for 8 years, the colours assigned become as much a part of the associated identity of that person as familiar icons or ideosyncratic contents. Especially for the people who don't post that often, it's fun to be scrolling down and be excited by a flash of yellow or turquoise you haven't seen in months.
But, ah well. This will do for now. At least until I can find a new layout I actually like. Or work out how to make my own. Or something. All of which is entirely out of the question at the moment, I just got really sick of looking at a defaulted black-on-white layout and this was the closest I could find to the dark blues I'd been using.
I have a goo-induced headache. It sucks.
