It has to be said, I don't know if it would be considered a better album than Hybrid Theory, because it's surprisingly different to its predecessor.
Hybrid Theory was a lot of angry, loud music. Like Papa Roach's Infest they seemed to be in a permenant state of pissed-off-ed-ness, a feeling that had disspiated somewhat by the time Lovehatetradgedy came around.
It's the angry edge that is noticably lacking form Meteora as well (with a few exceptions, like From The Inside) but it does have a substantually more melodic feel this time around.
It's definitely Linkin Park, you couldn't mistake it for anyone else, but it's like they're a more settled Linkin. Less jarring drama and voluminous, instantly memorable riffs, more long, slow underlying harmonies. I guess you could say it's as chill out as Linkin get.
Not as bombastic as Crawling or Papercut and more harmonic than Runaway, it's definitely heading in a different direction this time around.
Instantly memorable for me was Somewhere I Belong because it gets constant play on Kerrang. Being the first single from the album and all, and also the one most like the tracks on Hybrid Theory, and track 9, Breaking The Habit.
Breaking The Habit struck me instantly for some reason, and it was only after a couple more listenings that it struck me. It has some very distinct 80's/early 90's sounds going on in there.
To be honest it reminded me a little of "Heart too hot to hold" and the Simple minds track "Don't You" from the Breakfast Club...
It doesn't specifially sound anything like either of them, but that's just what it reminded me of. Maybe it's related to the synths they're using or something but really... it does sound like it should be on a soundtrack somewhere.
It's movie music. Very GOOD movie music, but movie music none the less.
I'll be interested to see if someone else picks up on that and sticks it in a film somewhere in the next year or so, actually.

It took me a few listenings through to really start to like Hybrid Theory and I must admit I zoned out a little somewhere in the middle of Meteora as well. (Though I was reading about Hugh at the time, so I think that was probably my fault)
Overall though I think I like it more each time I listen to it.
Only just over a half hour in length, but fully worth the 12 quid I paid for it.
