So when my brother was a budding young blacksmith, idealistic in his ideas and occasionally lacking in execution, he made a set of bannisters for my mother. They're very big and very heavy, somewhat Deco styled and made out of solid steel, and they spent some number of years on show in an art gallery in Wales.
Nigh on a decade late, he's finally getting roung to attempting to fit them and, true to my prediction at the time... they d'un fit.
It's for a dog-legged staircase and one set of stairs is slightly longer than the other. The bannisters, however, appear to be the same length.
This shortcoming has been expressed mostly by the boy making frustrated noises and exclaiming "God, I was a numpty when I was 18..."

Yes dear. Weren't we all?

I need more coffee, the first cup didn't seem to achieve anything other than making me slightly peckich.

Edit: They've given up, it's proved itself impossible to fit without substantial adjustment. And I have the weirdest sense of deja-vu about it. Did we perhaps not make this discovery before, when the bannisters first arrived back from Wales before being consigned to the garage under the heading of "This needs more work than we can achieve without specialist equipment"...?

I hope he does more blacksmithing ;)
Shame they don't fit - hope they can find a way to fit ;)

I snapped a quick pic of one of them leaning against a wall. They're a bit rough-looking at the moment, they'll need a good sanding and re-paining before they look decent cause they've been sitting around gathering dust in the garage for a fair while.
