Went to town, got some more placemats that thought they were coasters, and went on a hunt for the BBC History magazine that [livejournal.com profile] deke wanted. Which was insanely hard to find as WHSmiths had decided that it did not belong in the History section, it belonged between the Computing and Transport sections.
Yeah, no I don't know why eather.

Mum's decided that after she gets back off her holiday she's going to buy a new sewing machine. Because buying a new one with a 4-year guarentee is going to work out cheaper than servicing all the old ones she's accumulated. I'm all for this, there's a project I really want to try and I am, it must be admitted here, too damn lazy to sew it all by hand.

I highly recommend a Bernina. They're the machines I have at work (and survive students very well - we have the bottom line machine there, which is a mechanical, the 1080 I think it is) and I have a Bernina at home as well - the bottom line computer machine, which is lovely - though I prefer the Bernina industrial I have at work, cause I need a machine that can sew as fast as *I* can ;-).

We had them at school waaaay back in the day as well. I don't get a say, she'll buy whatever she buys. I don't really care so long as it works long enough to throw together someone's birthday present...

We have a collection of variously-in-need-of-servicing ones cast aside by other members of the family accumulating under the piano. Of course typically the only one that's never broken is the old hand-crank Singer. Which is the only one I can't actually find.

Those things never break. I have two - one is a treadle and one is a coverted treadle with an added motor I keep at the shop cause it does things the other machines can't ;).

Proof, if it were needed, that they really did build things better in the old days ;)
