Oh well, great...

No problems booting up ye increasingly-wonky PC this morning, it started up fine. Then as I was cruising youtube it spontaneously shut down. Like *pouff* cut the power.
I think... probably my power supply is done for.
Haven't tried turning it on since it offed itself, I'm too scared it's going to be really properly fucked or something. If some form of resultant power wonkery has fried any more of the internals I think i'll just say 'fuck it' and use my last partial paycheque upgrade at the end of the month. Alternatively if it's just a dead power supply then that's fine. I can live with that. I'd rather not have to drop my entire last partial paycheque on new hardware quite yet.
On the study comp instead right now. The screen needs cleaning and there appear to be crumbs on everything. I do not know why.

Yeah. Likely just the power supply. JR seems to think it should be ok.

Might need a good clean? If the fan is clogged up with gunge, it can cause the CPU to overheat, which will cause an automatic shut-down to prevent damage.

Before you spend serious money on new parts, that the back off the thing and give it a good dusting. Buy one or two of those compressed air cans. They are a lot cheaper than a power supply.

JR has a half dozen power supplies under the piano so that's really not much of an issue.

Still, shame to waste one if it just needs cleaning...

No, it's been acting flaky and turning itself off and freezing randomly during boot-up for a while now. This is just the first time it's shut down after it's been up and running fine. Usually it just acts weird when it's just turned on.

*nods*

Point taken. However, if you are taking the back off anyway to put a new power supply in, it can't hurt to give it a good clean, now can it!

Oh, I assume JR is busy hoovering it right now, he does love to harp on about such things.
