Drove the maternal to work this morning, as she had a huuuge bag of coursework folders to lug. She insisted on trying to be helpful in regard to my still-unformed female character's backstory. Gave me numerous ideas none of which were appropriate, then stopped trying to foist ideas on me and went off on a tangent about some ancestor who was the son of a royal hatter who got disinherited for marrying an actress he knocked up. Which was ironically far more interesting a piece of information than any of her ACTUAL ideas. Such is the way of things. As soon as she stops actively trying to be clever, clever things come out all of their own accord.

Anyway...

It's a long-overdue laundry day for me. The sun is out, the washing line is full, I have no clothes left in my dresser because they're all in the laundry hamper, and I am already sliiiiightly drunk on coffee...

Your mother sounds a very interesting person to me. Do you always discuss your fandoms and stories and such with her?

Not always, but she knows I'm trying to write an actual full-length, non-fandom novel this time around and she was interested in what it was about. I mentioned I'm having trouble with female characters, because I always have trouble writing women, and she got all sidetracked by the idea.
It's actually the reason why I usually don't discuss my writing with her, as she likes to try and take over and push her ideas instead. But then she's a frustrated novelist herself. She wrote a trillogy of I guess 'gothic' novels when she was a teenager that she never quite finished editing.

I must've missed your follow-up post (unless, of course, there wasn't one): did you ever turn your notice in at work?

Oh, yes... yes I did... last week. It ended up being filtered though, as it mentioned RL people quite a lot.

Seeing as I'm in the States, I wouldn't know any of those people anyway. *laughs* I'm just sorry it didn't work out...
