Not really, just a stereotype. (Think Dad's Army, the Verger was perpetually sucking up to the vicar and telling tales on Captain Mainwaring like a schoolboy.) Plus you only really get a Verger with the CofE, and you know how that leads to Cake or Death.

It was Christmas Day, and I spent it with virtual strangers. I think we saw one episode of Dad's Army, and then one of Only Fools and Horses (?)... let's just say I was completely mystified.

As examples of Auntie Beeb's output go, they could not have found two less stranger-friendly examples.
Personally I can't stand Only Fools, but the G-ma used to make us watch Dad's Army with her when we were little. Didn't mind that so much, it had just enough slapstick to entertain a 7 year old.
But they and their enormous followings are not exactly shining examples of the nation's taste.

Tardis changes too- with almost every regeneration in fact. 8 had a gothic interior, 1-7 all had variations on the white with knobbles on the wall, in Time Crash 5 even comments that 10 has 'changed the desktop theme' to Coral.
So do Daleks for that matter, they've actually gone Retro in homage to the Peter Cushing movies.

Re the angels, well, we didn't get to know about them fully last time as it was the episode-without-much-Doctor-in so it was all filtered through the human characters, and the Doctor is still learning about them himself. So they're not *different* rules so much as just... additional rules.

i just think it's such a SHAME about the angels because they were fabulous. silent assasin. the most human psychopaths in the history of the universe, because they didnt kill you, they let you live to death and so on and so forth and moffatt goes and changes everything about them. makes them talk. makes them strangle people. makes them not 'weeping' angels anymore (and you cant tell me that at least half of them shouldnt have been frozen in place because they were ALL looking at each other)... and it's made worse by the fact that it's moffat himself doing it.

oh, i'm just bitter, ignore me. hmpf.
