Oh look, I has more drugs. Conversation went a bit like this-

Nice Indian Doctor Guy : Well, your chest is surprisingly clear but your heart rate is going incredibly fast. You look a little *searches for correct term* flustered. How do you feel right now?
Me: Hot... kind of dizzy...
NIDG: *takes temperature* Huh. 39.7-- That's... quite high... (That's 103.5 for the Americans on flist)
Me: That's nice. This is the least fevery I've been since Thursday.
NIDG. : Ohhkay then. So I'm going to give you some antibiotics for this fever now... If it gets any worse again come back.

And now, ladies and germs, duly dosed with my shiny new pills, about which the pharmacists was very certain to tell me repeatedly I should "avoid direct sunlight" while taking (I guess they're going to make me turn into Edward Cullen?) I am going the fuck back to bed.

Fun times!
I hope the pills work in geting rid of the germs, and not in making you into a walking glitter ball!

I don't know what they'll do, I totally just barfed them back up a minute ago.
Good news- this usually means my fever is not far from breaking
Bad news- I really hate being sick.

I am cursed at the moment with a very unhappy stomache. All the painkillers from the last 4 days to keep the temp down had made it pretty miserable to start with.

Damn! In an adult 103 temp is fairly serious. I'm amazed you could even get out of bed. What antibiotic are you taking? Are you supposed to take them with food? Sometimes that makes a difference. But when your fever is that high, that in itself can make you sick to your stomach. Another suggestion would be take ibuprofen half an hour to an hour before the antibiotic to reduce your temp. Then the meds may stay down. Gosh, I'm sorry you're so miserable.

buuuuh... uh, Doxycycline?

Felt kind of nauseous all morning and it finally caught up with me about an hour after I'd already taken the antibiotics, which is a pain. Usually when I have a fever that gets to the pukey stage it means it's just on the cusp of breaking though, and I hope this remains true.
I know, ibuprofen, I've been taking painkillers to keep on top of the fever since Thursday, but they also are not aiding in keeping my stomach happy.

you know, your symptoms sound suspiciously swine flu-ish. Did the doc take a nasal swab?

Date: 2010-04-19 06:39 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] simonthecat.livejournal.com
It better not be as the antibiotics don't treat viruses, only bacteria.

Anyway, I had swine flue. It wasn't so bad. Other than the fact that I died.

true about the antibiotics. Unfortunately, it's too late for Tamiflu. That needs to be started w/in 24 hours of symptom onset. Antibiotic is good for possibly secondary infections though.
Yeah, funny about how the swine flu's not so bad. Ya die, no worries.

Though to be fair, swine flu in the UK wasn't anywhere near as virulent or fatal as in other places. It got a lot of press coverage but in most people it was 'a bit of a nasty cold' and that was all. They dismantled the helpline and tamiflu pick-up points ages ago because they just weren't needed like they'd thought.

I'm serious: I had Swine Flu. I caught it when doing a house visit on a customer, who's son was home from school with it. A week later and I was sneezing and coughing and feeling all weak.

And as you can see, I am quite clearly dead! But then so is the entire population of the world. We all died from SARS, then we all died from Bird flu and finally we all died from Swine flu...

LOL! Don't ya love the hype? When will a virulent disease spring from climate change? Oh wait, isn't the correct term global warming?

Usually the drugs that tell you to stay out of the sun do so because you will be suseptible to sunburn much more easily than you would otherwise be.

Sorry, bad joke. Hope you feel better soon.

Oh and don't take it with milk, or if you are pregnant! And especially not with breast milk!

Says so, here...

No just explains stuff... thus why you need treatment asap

As for the keep out of sunlight - you'll just sunburn very easily. So shade is your friend when on cyclines.

Also a hint- eat lots of yougert to help the gi tract deal with the bacteria killing...

Lots of noncaffinated fluids and rest.

Baths that are cool to tepid to lower the fever from such dangerous levels.

When Hubby hit 103 once it was off to the ER because he was seeing things and the doc said the next step at such a high fever was convulsions and then brain damage... so keep that in check okay?

Mama View is worried

Well I haven't hallucinated anything and on the most part I've been keeping the fever under control with alternating paracetamol and ibuprofen, I just didn't take any this morning before I left for the docs, and then felt too nauseous thereafter to even want to try.
Started back on them again after my nap and something to nibble, now I'm just all sweaty and gross.

Date: 2010-04-19 04:55 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] viewoftheworld.livejournal.com
That's good you've been taking something so it was probably lower than that even if you felt feverish.

So replace the liquids you sweated out, have a tepid bath, keep up with fever control meds and antibotics and rest.

Bad idea. Always check out the specifics of the drug. It specifically says do not take with milk or any other dairy product.

Then watch out for the runs with a cycline. Clear a path to the bathroom and drink lots of fluids.

Not with what she is on. However as Simon says always good to check with your doctor. The cyclines are fine with dairy per all their product inserts and the active cultures in yougert help slow down or stop the diarreha that often accompanies their use. You can also take acedolphus (Sp?) in a tablet form for it.

I know it does say that but in the US that isn't considered a viable reason after futher research. My father hold a doctrate in pharmacogancy and biochemistry we've discussed it at length over dinner. It's based on a premise that set forth in the early '60's that most agree based on futher research is invaild. Like the don't eat grapefruit with the statins.

I never accused you of making it up and it is always a good idea to check with the doctor but antibotic killing off friendly flora in the gut is a known problem with all them.

Just for you, I checked the enormous pamphlet of hugeness that came with the pills and it says-

"If your stomach is upset, Doxycycline can be taken with milk or a meal"

So there you go. Now you know. Or at least now you know when dealing with Chanelle Medical UK distributed ones anyway.
