Well it's after 7, looks like I get my day off.
Now, I would very much like to conduct a little bit of research here and I could do with some help if people are up to it. Couple of simple questions that if I had answers to could possibly make my life easier.
Please...? *bats lashes and looks hopeful*
(Well, it'd save me making a guess as to statistical data anyway... and I don't really want to spend my day off making random assumptions about stuff...)
Alright, so you are (for whatever random reason) heading to the wonder that is my hometown of Loughborough and you need somewhere to stay. You decide in your great wisdom that the internet is the best place to look because the local region Yallow Pages is pretty darned hard to get hold of outside the Leicester area.
So the question is, which search engine/s are you most likely to look on and what wording would you be most likely to use in your search?
So would you be typing "Hotels in Loughborough" into Yahoo or asking Jeeves where you can stay, or just a simple "Loughborough B&B" into Google? That kind of thing.
That's the one question. The other question is, when you invariably get those websites that list hotels in a certain area (like openroads.com or hotelsandguesthouses.net) are you more likely to choose a hotel from a page that's got LOTS of options or a page that's only got a few?
Or would you check out a bunch of those sites and maybe choose a hotel that crops up all over the place?
OK, I'm done with the market research... It'd be deeply helpful if I could con a few answers out of people. Maybe if I blind my boss with statistics I won't have to do so much arsing around finding good places for them to advertise stuff...
Never... never open your mouth at work around people who don't understand the internet...

And now I'm hopelessly intrigued by what 'fanfic' is...

Date: 2003-03-19 02:51 pm (UTC)And fanfic, now there's a can o' worms. Fan-written fiction based on an already existing... uh... thing. Like a book series, or a TV series, or a movie or something. Anything from happy fluffy suitable-for-everyone silly parodies to exceedingly smut-filled naughty things. All comes under the same unberella.
And before you ask, X-men movie/comics fan. I amuse myself by writing pointless things. Passes the time, eh?

Date: 2003-03-20 03:56 am (UTC)Ah, and now I know what fanfic is. And since I feel compelled to give you some knowledge in exchange:
- the difference between a choke hold and a strangle hold: a choke applies pressure to the throat, cutting off the air. A strangle applies pressure to the sides of the neck, cutting off the blood
If you already had that fact under your belt, show me your proof of purchase and I'll replace it with another of equal or lesser value
X-men = cool. I haven't read comics regularly for a while now, but when I get that chance I still delve! And wolvie is/was one of my favourite characters on the Marvel vs Street Fighter games, so it's all good :-)

Date: 2003-03-20 05:08 am (UTC)Ah, you sound just like a friend of mine 3 days before his "progaming in PEARL" final project was due. I think he made it up as he went along and just about scraped through, though to be honest I don't know anyone who really understands PEARL...

No, you're in luck, I didn't know that at all. Random information is good, I could drop it into a story somewhere and impress people with my new-found brilliance.

I think Wolvie is one of most people's favourite characters.
I'll admit that I only got into Marvel comics after the movie came out, (though I did study The Crow for two years as my open project in art at college) so I'm still working my way through mountains of twisted backstory. Convoluted but fun, and it does give me something diverting to do in the afternoons when I'm not working. :)

Yeah, Wolverine IS a firm fan-favourite. I was referring more to his use in the computer game, but then in the last installment (Marvel vs Capcom 2) they've balanced it out a lot more. Good luck on your delving, anyways. My favourite comics recently (and I actually had a conversation with my good friend
Anyways, I'm getting tired of typing your handle out by hand: I'm gonna add you to my friends list *decisive nod*

Date: 2003-03-20 06:02 am (UTC)Personal favourites at the moment are Wolverine/Hulk crossovers. Mostly because they leave the door open for a lot of silly bickering.

*potters off to add you back* But I'll warn you, I'm not that exciting. Strange and random and a little exhuberatly fangirl now and then, but not that exciting ;)
