Jan. 31st, 2010 06:35 pmI've just gone through for the first complete re-read of the big ol' fic of doom and put in all the double paragraph breaks I don't bother with when writing first drafts. Damn thing just hit 70 pages. Fuck.
So, because I can't be bothered to even start going through to deal with the pacing issues, time for a TV meme as stolen from
viewoftheworld
Name a (current) show you can't miss:
Oh, piles. Ashes to Ashes, Dr Who, Being Human, QI XL, Mock the Week...
Name an actor that would make you more inclined to watch a show:
Well, Mr Huu did make me watch Viva Laughlin... A little Richard Armitage never hurts either. I probably wouldn't have started watching Spooks if he wasn't on it and probably won't continue if he leaves.
Name an actor who would make you less likely to watch a show:
One of Auntie Beeb's current go-to people, Julie Graham. There's something about her over-dramatic earnest-ness that really irks the snot out of me. She always makes this slightly constipated-looking serious face. She's actually one of the main reasons I still haven't watched Between The Sheets, depite the sextyimes with Mr Armitage in it.
Name a show you can, and do, quote from:
Oh, probably most-quoted is Blackadder. Usually that the path of my life is srewn with cow-pats from the Devil's own satanic herd.
Name a show you like that no one else enjoys:
Heh, probably Robin Hood. I know it has a fanbase and all but everyone else I know generally thinks it's pretty shit. Which, objectively, it was. Fun though. I even quite liked S3 despite an awful lot of negative fandom whittering.
Name a TV show which you've been known to sing the theme song:
If anything's going to get stuck in my head it's the theme tune from The Banana Splits. Or honestly anything on CBeebies and Nick Jr if the kidlets have been around.
Name a show you would recommend everyone to watch:
Newswipe. Especially if you're one of those people who complains about crappy media coverage of current events. Not only will it unashamedly give you the frequently mundane and boring facts behind news stories, but then dissect how they became over-hyped tabloid monstrosities in the first place. With a large spoonful of cynicism on the side.
Name a TV series you own:
Blackadder, Red Dwarf, Robin Hood, Monty Python's Flying Circus, Due South, Farscape, Firefly, Brass-Eye, Neverwhere, a veritable heap of costume dramas... I could go on.
What is your favourite episode of your favourite series?
Oh, so many. Love CSI's Gravedigger double-bill. The 4-part Children of Earth from Torchwood. LOVE the Gridlock episode of Who. Oh, and finale episodes of the Vicar of Dibley.
A show you mean to watch, but you just haven't gotten around to yet:
Life on Mars. I've seen the start of it and I've seen the end of it and a smattering of stuff in between, but never actually watched the whole thing.
Ever quit watching a show because it was so bad?
Many times. Bonekickers and Survivors instantly spring to mind. Also gave up on Lost, couldn't get into Heroes and absolutely hated CSI:NY cause it was so bloody turgid and introspective when it started.
Name a show you aren't interested in watching, not in the least:
Anything involving a panel of judges sitting around passing comment on either members of the public or desperate C-list celebrities.
Name a show that's made you cry multiple times:
I don't cry easily at TV. I've come pretty close watching Dr Who before now though. And it's certainly made me do the flaily hand gesture of Oh-my-God-ness numerous times. Also, the Vicar of Dibley's ending made me a little wibbly round the edges.
Oldest TV show you like?
Technically Who pre-dates Python but I'm not so keen on the really old bits of Who. The Flying Circus is probably the oldest series I've watched to completion. I do kinda' dig some of the old 'The Avengers' eps though. Kinky Boots and all.
Newest TV show you like?
Most of the stuff I'm watching right now is mid-season. Being Human's shaping up excitingly at the moment though. That's probably the newest of my regular viewings.
What do you eat when you watch TV?
Depends when I'm watching really. Whatever meal seems most appropriate at the time I get hungry. I don't generally eat in front of the TV just for the sake of eating though.
How often do you watch TV?
About once a day, usually in the evenings. If there's nothing on that I actively want to watch I may cruise the cable stations for a while just to make a bit of a change of scene.
Do you have a favorite talk show?
I enjoy Rossy and often Graham Norton though I think they are perhaps more chat shows than talk shows, if we're drawing the distinction. If I'm really bored I may idly cruise through This Morning.
What's the last TV show you watched?
QI XL last night.
What's your favourite/preferred genre of TV?
I do love me some satire, and some witty banter. Failing that, some sci-fi drama or costume drama, or a *good* sitcom, but they're hard to find.
What's your least favourite genre of TV?
Reality, soaps, or anything that's just *grindingly* relentlessly depressing.
What was the first TV show you were obsessed with?
Red Dwarf. I went to conventions and everything.
What TV show do you wish you never watched?
I accidentally channel hopped through that autopsy they did on C4. That was... kind of nauseating.
What's the weirdest show you enjoyed?
I'm quite sadly addicted to those "How it's Made" kind of programs with the production lines and lots of shots of machinery filling tubes of toothpaste or whatever. I have no idea why.
What TV show scared you the most?
I don't like scary things, I try and avoid them :(
What is the funniest TV show you have ever watched?
I honestly have no idea. Most consistently amusing to me at the moment is a bunch of stand-up comedians trying to out-funny each other in some sort of panel game setting, and there are a hell of a lot of those.
Which do you think is the best TV series ever made?
I have no idea how to even go about answering that. So many great TV programs to choose from. And how can you pick between perception-altering documentaries and mold-breaking comedies and genre-defining dramas? There's an awful lot of good TV, you just have to wade through chin-high drivel to find it.
