Jan. 4th, 2010 04:23 pmTook myself off to see Sherlock Holmes today, as it's cheap day at the local.
Oh my God, it's made of crack and crazycakes and slash, and Homes and Watson really do spend the entire time sniping at each other like a co-dependant old married couple who are contemplating a divorce but can't actually function without each other. It was frickin' hilarious.
Especially the repeated exchanges about who owns what.
Watson: You can't keep experimenting on my dog!
Holmes: *affronted* OUR dog!
Watson: THE dog...
You don't even need to write slash, there is no subtext. It's all just text already. OMGtheirloveissocanon and probably arguing about who left the seat up again and whose turn it is to cook tonight and where did it leave its keys now...?
In short... it was dumb, it was funny, it was gayer than Barrowman and I enjoyed every big dumb stupid minute of it.
Plus, bonus, RDJ has aged surprisingly well and some befuddled eye-candy never hurts. Plus he has really nice hair in it.
It's also quite fun to play 'spot the semi-famous bit-characters' -
Boucher's come a long way since getting drowned in purple dye part way through North & South, and it took me forever to remember that the guy playing Lestrade, despite having a filmography as long as my arm on the imdb, is only memorable to me for a one-time appearance on crappy 90s flat-share sitcom Game-On as 'Stoat' the prison-escapee with the unrequited crush on Samantha Janus.
Don't ask me how my brain works or why it remembers that kind of crap, but there you go.
