Oh, and seemingly the boiler's just broken. I mean literally just... ping and it's dead. NO HEAT, YEY! The boiler's electrics are offline. It's not the fuse on the mains as far as we can tell, so it's probably the board. (Again. It has already been replaced once, about 5 years ago, maybe.)
*eyeroll* Typically, it's the first winter after the maternal cancelled the British Gas 24 hour homeserve contract after the dispute she had with them over the continual telesales calls we got. (4-5 times a day at one point. They were REALLY persistent. I can see her point when they didn't stop calling her even after she told them to stop, repeatedly, but I just kind of knew... the moment you cancel something, that's the moment you suddenly need it.)

So anyway, we have no heat for at least the next couple of days. The gas fire was disconnected the better part of a year ago for being a monumental health hazard, and as we almost never used it we never got it replaced. Such is life.

The kids were supposed to be staying here tonight, while I went up to K&BW's so we could catch a Sherlock Holmes matinee tomorrow. That's not going to happen, needless to say. The kids are going back to some place where there's heating and movie plans have therefore taken a sideline.
I might take myself off to see Holmes at the local this week some time instead. They have cheap Mondays now, as well as cheap Wednesdays, and to be honest, though the screen is not as big and the chairs not as comfy, it's less than half the price of the swanky place in Derby and I have enough padding on my backside to make up the difference in upholstery.

Anyway, the house is still relatively warm for now, the last burst of central heat from the boiler before it conked out and the residual warmth from cooking dinner means that at least downstairs is relatively toasty as of the moment, but if it doesn't get fixed after the bank holiday I may yet take to typing porn in fingerless mittens to keep warm. ;p

At least the shower is self-heating electric, so we're not totally screwed for hot water.

Yes, in that regard so do I :p
I think the maternal's going on the hunt for the electric heater that is lost somewhere in the garage wilderness...
