Ooooh, I so need to go get myself the April issue of Total Film... it has X2 posters! iieeeeeeeeeee!
Looks like I will be going shopping this weekend afterall. No comics to pick up but I MUST have that mag if it's out :D

khakigrrl about my old Red Dwarf fan days has made me all randomly nostalgic. I really should try and pick up the season 1 and 2 DVDs at some point. I know I've not watched the videos in ages but it was because it reached the point where I knew them so well I didn't have to actually watch them to hear the jokes. I could recite them to myself on long train journeys back in the day XD
Yes, I was at the point where I could answer 90% of the questions in the quiz book without even thinking about it, and the other 10% only took a few seconds of contemplation before I remembered.
Ask me now and I'm stumped. (Though the cycling gloves were blue... I do remember that much)
I should gather together all my random stuff and try and work out how much some of this crap is worth. Like my full cast Auto'd limited press Tongue Tied video. *strokes chin*

Date: 2003-03-07 09:08 pm (UTC)It's done the same thing to me. It really was a well written show, at least until *shudder* series 7&8.

LOL! After my last message to you, can you guess what I bought online? Yep, series 1 and 2 on DVD. It's just amazing to me that they released them in the US, UK, and Oz regions all at the same time so none of the fans would have to wait. That's the really annoying thing about overseas fandoms. The books and cassette tapes can be purchased from all over the world, but in order to get a video that'll work on my equipment, it either has to be transferred to US format (which can be kinda grainy), or I've gotta wait until they decide to sell official copies in the US. It's quite the bummer.

Same here, and though I haven't watched them in years, I'm sure it'll all come back to me. I bought the DVDs, though, 'cause my VHS tapes aren't the best copies, they're gonna run out some time, I'd have plenty of blank tapes for other shows if I could use the RD tapes, and the DVD's got audio commentary tracks for both the actors and Grant Naylor. Oh, and I got 'em for $20 off, too.

Hee! I know most of 'em, too. The things that mess me up are the Space Corps Directive numbers. I know the directives, but I just can't identify them by the numbers. I'm bad with dates, too. ;-P
Re:
Date: 2003-03-08 01:57 am (UTC)*insert moment of smugness* That is the one really good thing about VCRs in this country. They did a good, good, clever thing and decided NTSC compatability was a nifty idea.
Well, at least you I watch them, I've never tried recording on one. I don't think that'd actually work but hey, the watching's the most important part, right?
Unless you do like I do and have a bunch of NTSC tapes full of stuff you no longer care about and can't record over and don't want to throw away... XD

Yeah, I'd have a lot more space if I didn't have all my video versions kicking around (1.-6 and the 7 X-tended of the classic series and also 1-3 on the re-mastered editions... they take up a lotta space) but I'm rather attatched to the cover art on the official copies even if the tapes are a little screwed.
I never did get all of 7 and 8 on proper tape though and the recorded-from-TV videos got wiped over a little while ago now.
I'm not exactly heartbroken... When they come out on DVD I'll buy then but I don't think I've even watched series 8 once since it came out.

I USED to know 'em... now not a darned clue :p
Oh, in the massive great clearout though I found my collection of Dwarf watches. I'd forgotten all about them. Series 8 may have sucked giant monkey rocks but the sports watch was cool, and for some strange reason I was acually clever enough to buy 2 so I could keep one and not feel guilty about wearing out the other.
I also have an almost-mint series 6 watch and tin. It has been worn but you can only tell cause the strap's a little bent in one place.
I have 2 copies of the 2000 calendar too, still wrapped in cellophane. *scratches head* and I wonder why I have no space left, it's all taken up with the collectable stuff I've hoarded since I was 12...
I start sorting through my bookcase in a bit. *eh heh* that's not gonna' easy...
[watches it loom ominously, toppling slightly and groaning under the weight]
If I don't come back, send out a rescue dog with a barrel of brandy...

I think the thing that bugs me most about compatibility issues is that they made the DVDs incompatible. Video tapes I can understand because the NTSC and PAL tapes are physically different. However, there is absolutely nothing different between UK and US DVDs, physically. The only difference is that the software limits the DVDs to machines sold in the respective countries.
Unless you do like I do and have a bunch of NTSC tapes full of stuff you no longer care about and can't record over and don't want to throw away... XD
Yep, because I just know that one day, I'm gonna wanna watch it and it won't be there.

The only tape I have cover art for is the Smeg Outs one. All of the others are taped off of TV or converted copies.

Hee! Seven and eight were the easiest for me to tape 'cause our PBS station had a marathon of all of them in one night when they first got the copies. In fact, the series eight tape has me on it 'cause I'm answering phones for the pledge drive. That was a lot of fun to do, especially since I got to watch the eps for the first time with fellow Dwarfers.

Kewl. I have the 2000 calendar somewhere, all worn out and written on. It was such a fun novelty 'cause it has all the UK holidays on it. Who knew you had so many bank holidays?

Oh, I've had that experience before. Hee! How about I send a barely-dressed, well-oiled Rimmer along with the dog?
Re:
Date: 2003-03-12 10:05 am (UTC)LOL!
Once upon a time I would have leaped on the idea... now I think I'd quite like a barely-dressed, well-oiled Wolverine instead, but I'll take what I can get so long as it's slippery and pliant. ;p
