Do you watch more TV or movies?
Um, movies ON TV usually... or DVD or whatever. I'm usually too lazy to go out and most of the stuff on TV lately has been dire, so my videos get a good workout.
What is your favourite television show?
In the history of all things televisual, Red Dwarf made the biggest impression on my life in general, though the last 2 seasons really kinda' sucked... Let's say Classic Dwarf and things like Blackadder and Monty Python, Spitting Image, Not The Nine O'Clock News...
I think I'm dating myself here...
Currently I have to admit I watch pitiful amounts of TV. I'm usually too sidetracked sitting online or listening to pirated music...
Funniest show on television?
Uh... Graham Norton was damn hilarious before he went 5 nights a week. It's been a little hit and miss since then though. Bits of Futurama and South Park still make me laugh... And The Live Floorshow on a Saturday night.
Favourite writer on TV?
The entity known as Grant Naylor, rather than the seperate entities known as Rob and Doug. Alone they both lack, yet together it worked remarkably well. I was even rather fond of the 10%ers...
French and Saunders maybe too. And David Renwick, purely for Johnathan Creek rather than any of the other things he's been responsible for.
Who is your favourite television actress?
I so suck at remembering acresses. I have no firm opinions about any of them, TV, movie or otherwise.
I'll go with French and Saunders as a duo. Can't go wrong with a classic.
Who is your favourite television actor?
Uhh... *looks stupid* I see many a head-turning cute guy, yet I very rarely bother to catch their names. I gues I don't have one especially.
I'll go with Alan Davies seeing as I'm on a Johnathan Creek kick right now. Or if you want to be a little more unusual, the guy who plays the Reverend Obadiah Steppenwolf the third on The Life Floorshow makes me laugh like a drain. It's fucked up but oh-so-funny...
Who are the most overrated actors on TV?
Anyone from the Eastenders/Corrie/Brookie/general soapland stable. I don't care for any of them.
I also care not for any of the reality TV rejects, be they from big brother or any of the assorted popstars shows. They spawn across the screns and the charts and almost universally suck.
What's the worst show on television?
Again with the soapland and reality TV.
Seinfeld (sorry, I can't STAND that damned show)
Anything of the Jenny Jones-ey/Springer-ey type programs. They fill me with the compulsion to stab my brain out with the legendary spork.
What is your TV schedule?
Saturday: Johnathan Creek, Live Floor Show
Sunday: no schedule... skim and channel hop through the cable till something interesting happens unless there's a half-decent movie on.
Mon-Fri: Graham Norton if I remember. The Last Detective though I can never remember what day it was on. Random channel hopping or movie watching, or failing that, vegetate in front of endless MASH reruns on Paramount, trying to resist the urge to attack myself with the spork again.
If I'm home during the day I'll surf through the cable and probably end up laughing at the crap they're trying to sell on the QVC shopping network while trying to avoid the Jenny Jones minefield on Sky1. Either that or I'll end up on a music network somewhere, most likely VH1, in case they show something worth listening to.
Sometimes I end up on the Cartoon network if they're showing Powerpuff Girls, but most of the best cartoons have been moved to CNX, the bastards...
You know, I really spend way more time on the internet than I do watching TV these days... I think it shows. There's very little that seems to grab my attention any more because so much of it is such undeniable crap. *cough-The-Salon-cough*

*stands ramrod straight and gives Lady T the double-Rimmer salute (for special occasions only)*
I used to be such a fan of Red Dwarf. It was my first real obsession, and it got me into internet fandom. I even used to run an online amusement park called Rimmerworld with games and rides (including the Rimmer Experience) and everything. Yep, before "Khaki," I was "Rimmette." *sigh* It's too bad Grant and Naylor split apart their gestalt entity.
Have you heard that they're supposed to *finally* start filming the RD movie this month? They're using the same actors. Unfortunately, it's a Doug Naylor only production, though. :-(

Date: 2003-03-05 12:05 am (UTC)I went to two Dimension Jump conventions, spent 2 very happy weekends trailing round indulging my fandom, met, hugged and stole autographs from every member of the cast twice (and Doug... no Rob as yet though) and generally obsessed for many a long year.
Then my subscription to the fanclub ran out and I never quite got round to renewing it though I do have a stavk of old fanclub mags still kicking around.
And yes, goshdarnit, that movie...
I know Rob came in for a little "script consultation" when Doug hit rocky payches but yeah, it's primarily Doug's baby.
Which will be good for the plot. Very good for the plot. Bad, very, very bad for the laughs.
I await the result with interest though I have to admit I don't have high hopes. :/

Oh, I envy you. The one year I could have actually afforded it and all, I had a job where our busy season was in the Fall and I couldn't leave. :-( I was a mega Chris Barrie fan and all, too. Have you ever gotten the books on tape? He's soooo good at impersonating the whole cast it's almost like listening to a long episode than one person reading a book.
Heck, even now, my car still has a license plate protector that says, "Infinity Welcomes Careful Drivers." I'm sure 99 percent of the people who see it don't get it. They probably think it's some sort of religious motto. *snerk*

Same here. I was thrilled when they posted pics from the convention and fan things 'cause I was so far away from all the action. I still have 'em in a box somewhere with my Chris autograph, a starbug cardboard standup, and my RD alarm clock.

Well, depending on if he partners up with that writer of the Red Dwarf Survival Manual like he did in series VIII, it might just be full of silliness without much plot. I just hope it's an original story and not another reworking of Infinity Welcomes Careful Drivers.

Same here. I want it to come out and be as good as the old eps, but the likelihood of that is very dim.

But yes, his impressions were good, but that would be the many years service as one of the voices behind the Spitting Image puppets.
And yes, I think virtually everyone i know was a Chris Barrie fan at some point in their lives.
My biggest kick back in the day? The discovery that he's not good with his alcohol, but he IS funny. Cause after a few beers his face goes bright red, after a few more beers he sings like Elvis and a few more beers after that he has trouble finding his hotel room.
Ahh, bless those late night discos. There's something strangely personal about seing your celebrities mind-numbingly drunk. ;p

Don't get me started listing the merchandise I have lurking around, we'll be here all night. XD
The only one I still use on a regular basis is the keyring and some of the multitude of t-shirts. And I'll drag out the jeather-sleeved jacket if it's a really special occasion, a convention, or somewhere where I have to look distinctive. ;)

I don't think he did. As I say it was Doug's baby with a little moral support from Rob.
I'm kinda' wishing I had my fanclub subscription back now, I want to know what's going on. ^^;;

Date: 2003-03-06 02:09 pm (UTC)They were expensive, but RD stuff was so hard to get over here, I got what I could. I've got both IWCD and Better Than Life on tape, and they've both served me well on long car trips countless times. Back when I was studying for the CPA exam, Rimmer's method for "not studying in a studying kind of way" played through my head all the time. It took me two times to pass that 16 hour exam, but at least I never wrote, "I am a fish," 600 times.
And yes, I think virtually everyone i know was a Chris Barrie fan at some point in their lives.
He's too dang talented for words. I never did get to see Spitting Image, but my local PBS channel played The Brittas Empire. What a guy!

ROTFL! I can so see that. He's got the complexion for a beet red blush, too. My older brother does as well and it's oh so fun to embarass him.

I woulda liked to see that.

I'm not one for T-shirts (not that they were easily available anyway), so the only item I regularly use is my coffee mug with Ace's catch phrase on it.

You can always check out the official page or Robert Llewellyn's page for info.

I have been known to write I am a Fish on the bottom of exam papers just for kicks, but that's because I have a warped sense of humour.
I have, however, been known to develop Rimmer's leg jiggle in moments of stress. :D

The topical nature of Spitting Image doesn't help. They've not repeated it here for years because half of what happened no one would remember as it was based on that week's news events.
Like re-runs of Drop The Dead Donkey have to have a re-cap of that week's headlines before the show so people can understand what the jokes were about.
ROTFL! I can so see that. He's got the complexion for a beet red blush, too. My older brother does as well and it's oh so fun to embarass him.
He does a darned good Elvis impression too y'know. He got up on a dare and did a duet with the guy who played Elvis in Meltdown (season 4, I forget the guy's name... Clayton mark...? mark Clayton...? Something like that?)
He also crashed Normal Lovett's standup routine when someone commented that he was "slightly posh". XD
I dunno, I guess I just really enjoyed seeing them all as being just regular people. It's very, very strange seeing your big at-the-time obsession being just a regular guy, kinda' drunk at 2am, getting eye-rolls off Danny and exchanging comedy abuse with Craig. I liked that. Cause while on one level you know they're just regular people, knowing it and seeing it are two different things and seeing famous people being the people they are when they're not being famous is a lot more interesting than seeing famous people when they're meeting their fans.
That was the good thing about the early D-Jump conventions though, they were really small affairs and you could actually get that sense of realness you don't get at bigger cons.
I'm not one for T-shirts (not that they were easily available anyway), so the only item I regularly use is my coffee mug with Ace's catch phrase on it.
I like t-shirts purely because you don't have to think too heard about what to throw on before you stagger to work in the morning.
I do have a deeply knackered out Fanclub smiley face Smeg Happens shirt that's a good 5-6 years older then the official merchandise version. it's utterly dead but I just can't bring myself to throw it away.
Some of the shirts were impossible to get hold of over here though too. The Cons had a very good merchandise shop though which is where I picked up most of my harder to find bits and bobs, like a selection of the greetings cards and the Tongue Tied music video. (signed by the full cast... watched once... *seals it up in an airtight bag*...)
You know now I think about it, and compare my Dwarf merch to my X-men merch it seems I've always been pretty good at collecting huge amounts of random stuff. Not that I really know what to do with any of it. I figure I'll hold onto it all till it really becomes worth something ;)
