DareDevil review, pretty much spoiler free

lady_t_220Back and I have to say... I liked it.
No X2 trailer but then that was pretty much guarenteed (local indie cinema is evil at times) but I have that downloaded so I will survive.
So, I liked it better than Spiderman but not as much as X-Men. As John pointed out, Spidey and Daredevil have pretty much the same psychosis, but Daredevil's kinda' like the grown up version. As I don't know anything at all about the comic version I'll say that, at least in movieverse, he's probably right.
As a movie it wasn't as well paced as X-Men, and though too much soggy relationship stuff would have drowned it, the relationship between Matt and Elektra seemed sort of perfunctory.
But on the up side, Ben Affleck doesn't look bad in red leather :D
So yeah... X-men was a better thought out film but Daredevil was more entertaining than Spidey. Probably because it was a good chunk darker. I like the dark, dingy, wet settings. Atmosphere ladled on with a big spoon and random funny bits popping out of nowhere... it's all good.
Things I liked: Being the only person in the whole damned cinema who laughed at the Marvel referances.
Bullseye's big-assed boots. GOD they were fantastic. Dangly chains and everything...
Bullseye in general. He makes me laugh.
For some reason I couldn't tear my eyes away from the Kingpin's man-boobies. It's like when pecs go mad... either that or someone attatched him to the air pump and forgot to turn it off again. Strangely entertaining in their own hyper-inflated way.
Alligators in the sewers... heheheh
Soundtrack... still love love love that OST, and it was good to finally be able to play spot-the-song.
Things I didn't like so much: Uh, some of the tilty "Yoof TV" angled camerawork made watching it pretty hard work at times, though I think general tiredness didn't help on that score.
Somewhat by-the-numbers romance, though Elektra and Matt's fight in the playground was darned funny.
In fact that's probably my only real quibble with it. Sort of felt like they were only having a romance because they were supposed to because that's what people do in the movies. But then that could just be me.
So that's about it really. I'm awaiting The Hulk with interest and X2 in total overexcitement and hoping that Marvel can keep making darned good movies cause so far they're doing really rather well.
That and I like playing "spot Stan", just cause he always looks so utterly gormless all the time, bless him ;)
