That Allen Man

Hugh... Woody Allen...
Woody Allen has set himself and Hugh Jackman to join Scarlett Johansson and "Deadwood" star Ian McShane in the untitled comedy Allen wrote and will direct.
Pic, which begins shooting June 27, will be Allen's second straight London-lensed comedy after "Match Point," which also stars Johansson.
"It's a treat to be filming in London again," Allen said. "The weather is overcast and rainy, and so I'm in heaven.
"The film is a comedy melodrama that is contemporary and takes place in London," he continued. "Johansson plays a visiting American student who has a love affair with a British aristocrat. I play a low-grade American entertainer, which is perfect for me because that's what I am."
The film -- which, in keeping with Allen tradition, won't be titled until the end of production -- is being financed by Ingenious Films, BBC Films and the Bank of Ireland.
Letty Aronson and Gareth Wiley are producing; Helen Robin and Nicky Kentish Barnes are co-producing. Steven Tenenbaum is exec producer, and Jack Rollins and Charles H. Joffe are co-exec producers.
Jackman will shoot the film before he reprises his role as Wolverine in "X3," the third installment of the "X-Men" franchise, which Brett Ratner will direct this summer for 20th Century Fox.
OK, I freely admit, I would be more excited, but I've never been wildly keen on Allen's directorial style, something about it grates me. But I am glad to see him do something out of the Hollywood machine even if it's not the much-anticipated 'Good' (which I'm still quietly hoping will go on at some point, though I fear it's in vain.)
Hm. And now, once again, I have London Calling stuck in my head.
Still, at least it being a somewhat British affair does mean we won't have to wait an age for its release, and should get some UK press coverage. Which is always a bonus.
Though one wonders if this would be a semi-reprisal of Leo or a whole new creature alltogether. Hmm.
Hope he remembers a good dialect coach. *recalls with fond amusement the slippy accent of X2*
*ugh* I have to go to work now.
Duck-index: Mostly purple right now, but with a touch of pink blooming under one wing as the heat from the PC increases*

Date: 2005-06-20 09:09 am (UTC)Actually, I quite enjoyed The Curse of the Jade Scorpion. Sweet little movie.
But what I am most excited about with this thing is that it's a movie! Which Hugh is making! Which will be available to the viewing public! Even if Allen's film get a staggered release, at least they get a release.
Me, starved of NewHugh? What makes you think that?

I'm also excited about the prospect of press coverage. And the hope that Hugh will be doing some interviews while he's over here *gets needlessly excited about Hugh being on her TV*
