Which probably explains why I'm randomly and yet entirely needlessly wanting to stuff my face with snacky junk. Boredom munchies are the worst.
I was reading a hilariously shitty book the other week, but then I finished it and the one I'm wading through now is just... plain old regular shitty. Like not even hilariously cliche trope-tastic crap, it's just generally, straight-up crap. The lead female character has the self-preservation skills of a lemming and the hero has all the charisma of a low-fat cheese sandwich.
It's not even bad enough to get angry about like the rapey French Baron or the execrable vampire/werewolf thing with the magical flying bubble babies, it's just bad. Like, I think it's meant to be a mystery/crime genre novella but the bad guy was guessable from the opening 6 pages and reads about as realistically as some of the less-acomplished offerings on ff.net. I mean obviously, it was either going to be an irrational crazy stalker or a jilted spouse, and by chapter 3 it's pretty obviously the latter.
Now they've figured out who's culpable, the hero (who got shot in the shoulder while on US air force duty... in Berlin because apparently WWII was still ongoing in 2009) is going to use his USAF 'connections' to find the bad guy before he can... do whatever it is psychopathic jilted husbands do when on the lam in Tacoma. Escape to Canada, presumably. Because the USAF has nothing better to do than sit around issuing its flight crew cutesy nicknames and using its billions of dollars of resounrces to locate husband-of-the-year before he escapes into the untamed tundra of Vancouver.
I think, in a minute or two, when I can be bothered to haul myself downstairs, I'm going to go and drown my literary sorrows in bacon. Because bacon, as everyone knows, makes everything better.
