Should be going to see Real Steel tonight. At last.
I feel a little bad it's taken me this long to get round to it, but it came out while I was on holiday in the middle of nowhere, and all last week was spent feeling like re-heated death so... well there it is.
Wanted to see 3 Musketeers too, because it looks RIDICULOUS, but that might have to wait for DVD, it's just about fallen off the local flea-pit schedule already. Tin-Tin is out too... so many things vying for attention, so little cash...

So I FINALLY got to see Real Steel this evening. Yes, I know, only 2 weeks late... it came out while I was on holiday in the back end of nowhere and then I came home only to be hit with the most miserable viral crud ever devised, but I did finally crawl out to catch a screening.
Not a bad turn-out either, for middle of the week near the end of the run.

I didn't love it... didn't dislike it either, but it didn't do much for me. Broadly entertaining and possibly the cheesiest thing I've seen in ages, but the group I saw it with enjoyed it for the silly cheese and everyone around us seemed to leave the screening happy at least. Even while gently mocking it a bit. (Not neccessarily the intended reaction, but I heard no rumbles of 'well that was crap' which for round here is pretty unusual.)
So yeah... amiable, kind of dumb, a little bit facepalm-ey, kind of like RobotWars without Craig Charles, but ultimately entertaining. Which is about what I was expecting from the outset to be honest. I wasn't blown away but then I wasn't expecting to be.

Weird seeing The Blob without his fatsuit though...

So in the realm of Hugh movies, it's not my favourite and was never going to be. I'd peg it above Deception, but likely to get watched less often than K&L. But that's mostly because K&L had pretty costumes and Hugh dresses like a slob for 90% of RS.
Yes, I am shallow.

...and frankly far more intrigued by the film of Les Mis he's working on.

Talking vaguely of Craig Charles, got a hell of a shock watching Death In Paradise on Beeb1 last night. Danny John-Jules? On my TV again? I feel really bad it took me so long to recognise him. Red Dwarf was my first real, proper fandom, before the internet and back when fan-zines were still printed on paper. Which is why it utterly should not surprise me that he's kind of aged in the intervening decades. But srsly, I had to find a cast list and double check. Cat got all ruggedy-like. It was weird. Not bad-weird just completely not-what-I-was-expecting-weird.
Also Annie from Being Human.

Also, srsly, Death in Paradise is like... they ran out of people to kill is Midsomer so decided to move it to a tropical island instead.

Can't say I loved it. Didn't hate it but... eh... amused me mostly for random Rupert Graves with a silly accent, but he ended up dead halfway through anyway so that's not going to be much of a lasting diversion...
