Feb. 16th, 2005 02:52 pmSo today... I have done little 'cept make cake for Kat's birthday. Which is tomorrow. It's very chocolatey.
Char and Rachie decided they wanted to pop over and help with the festivities and cake consumption, which is cool cause I've not seen Rachie in a while. Saw Char the other week but the Rachiemon has been more elusive lately. But anyway, yes... chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream and chocolate drizzled over the top... it's a very cocoa-heavy affair. Not QUITE the Vinese chocolate cake cocoagasm of legend (Not made that in a good couple of years because it's a pain in the arse) but chocolately none the less.
Though granny did phone me up halfway through my lunch cause she couldn't find wordpad on her computer. *facepalm*
She's used it a hundred times and yet suddenly she can't find it. Even though the boy spent 45 minutes explaining it to her again yesterday. *sigh*
Still then again, she's had a surprisingly calm and rational week so far. I guess she was due for some weirdness. The sad thing is that the calm and rational (well, as calm and rational as she's ever been) mood she's had this past few days really is more like how I remember her being. C's mum works for the social security doing aid assessment checks on the elderly. She thinks gran probably knows she's going a little bit odd and is overcompensating in denial of it. Seems plausible to me, especially given as her sisters both went thoroughly senile before they died.
Ah well, that all said and done I guess I should go see if that cake is cool and whether the leftover buttercream from the other week has actually defrosted yet. May have to thaw it out a touch in the micro otherwise I'll have a bugger of a job whisking the chocolate into it.

Culinary Hazards
Feb. 16th, 2005 08:15 pmOw. I think I burned one of my fingers on steam escaping out the lid on the casserole dish.
Well... maybe scalded a bit actually. Kinda sore but not really like OWOWOWOWOWOW or anything... *pouts*
*presents slightly sore patch of finger to a Leo!Muse to kiss better*
But... at least dinner was good and, in an attempt to rescue the potential lack of dumplings caused by not having any suet, we discovered that a tablespoon of olive oil substitued for each ounce of non-present suet actually works just as well.
This is always good to know.
My finger's still slightly sore. If it blisters I'm going to be very unhappy.
